Asylum-seeking children in shutdown: Neurobiological models

چکیده
Asylum-seeking children presenting in the shutdown state have been subject of much discussion and controversy—on both government medical system levels—in Australia Sweden. In this article, we conceptualize as an evolutionary response to extreme threat. We adopt a neuroscience approach present five plausible models for explaining state, their strengths shortcomings, overlaps between them. Model 1—the sustained autonomic arousal model—draws on polyvagal theory. 2—the innate-defence research pertaining animal human innate defence responses. 3—the catatonia clinical data with patients catatonia. 4—the hypometabolic emerging body work states animals humans. 5—the cascade model dissociation—draws trauma that dissociation. At present, each provides pathophysiological explanation—or component potential explanation—and none them, moment, has enough evidence be either accepted or disregarded. hope our advances scientific opens up possibilities effective treatment.

Frequent relocations between asylum-seeker centres are associated with mental distress in asylum-seeking children: a longitudinal medical record study.
BACKGROUND There are concerns about negative effects of relocations between asylum-seeker centres on the mental health of asylum-seeking children. However, empirical evidence comes from cross-sectional studies only. In this longitudinal medical record study, we aimed to assess: (i) whether relocations during the asylum process are associated with the incidence of newly recorded mental distress ...

BACKGROUND Evidence is emerging that psychological problems, particularly symptoms of depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, are more prevalent in unaccompanied asylum-seeking children (UASC) than their accompanied peers. However, little is known about help seeking and mental health service (MHS) utilization in this group, and how this relates to their psychological needs. This study ai...

Neurobiological investigation of heroin revealed that abusers of this highly addictive substance show dysregulation in brain circuits for reward processing and cognitive control. Psychologically, personality traits related to reward processing and cognitive control differed between heroin abusers and non-abusers. Yet, there is no direct evidence on the relationship between these neurobiological...
